Resting Metabolic Rate Test:  During the resting test, you simply breathe into the PNOE device for 10-20 minutes. The machine analyzes your breathing and reports total calorie burn and fuel utilization data (fats or carbs). 

​This test will let you know the caloric requirements you need based on your metabolic efficiency and your age and gender. Your report will provide you with information about the fuel sources your body uses during daily activities with percentages divided between fats and carbohydrates.

VO2 Max – Active Metabolic Rate Test:  During the VO2 Max Test, you will be fitted with the PNOE device and asked to choose between the stationary bike or treadmill for your active metabolism test. After a three-minute warm up you will be guided through the exercise test. Each minute the test will become more difficult until you are too exhausted to continue your pace.

This test provides a breath-by-breath analysis of how much oxygen the body can absorb while exercising.

• FASTING PRE TEST– You should be fasted by avoiding eating for 5 hours before the resting metabolism test.  Water only.  For Metabolic Active Testing please fast for 12 hours.  Water only.
• AVOID CAFFEINE OR STIMULANTS: No caffeine, tobacco or stimulating drinks for at least 6 hours prior to testing
• BE WELL RESTED AND READY! AVOID high intensity exercise 24 hours prior to testing or any exercise of more than 1 hour -24 hours prior to testing.  The Exercise Test is best in the morning as you are required to fast for 12 hours and avoid stimulants, caffeinated beverages and alcohol.
• MEDICATIONS ARE OKAY: Continue medications as usual.
• ARRIVE EARLY TO RELAX: Arrive at least 10 min prior to the test so that you can be well relaxed before the test (avoid RUSHING). Take time out to recharge, unplug and disconnect for up to one hour. WEAR WORKOUT ATTIRE: Bring or wear comfortable workout attire to your appointment Wear your usual running shoes for treadmill testing and/or any cycling gear for bike testing.
• PACK A SNACK FOR POST TESTING IF NEEDED: Consider bringing a snack for after your test. You might be hungry from fasting and thirsty! You may pack a change of clothes for after your test.
